Studies on the Effects of Sulfisoxazole on Developing Rat Fetuses

Abstract
Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were given consecutive daily oral doses of 500 and 1, 000 mg/kg from. the 9th to 14th day of gestation, and their effects were examined.
1. No significant decrease of fetal mortality was observed in all groups treated with sulfisoxazole ;fit 500 and 1, 000 mg/kg in rats.
2.. There was no decrease of fetal body weight gain at 500 mg/kg in rats, ,but in L 000 mg/kg groups there was slight inhibition in fetal body weight gains.
3. Slight decrease ¢¥of fetal brain weight occurred in 1, 000 mg/.kg groups.
4. Only two kinds of anomalies, that is cleft palate, and micrognadia were observed in the 500 gm/kg and the 1, 000 mg/kg groups.
